About Me

About me:

I have often been told I should write a book about my life. My response is always the same – who would believe it? So much has happened to our family in such a short amount of time, sometimes even I don’t believe it, and I lived through it! I do, however, want to write about my experiences. I want to remember every detail, and hopefully help someone else along the way. Of my 5 children, 3 have major medical concerns. Over the last 5 years, I’ve spent a lot of time in waiting rooms. Every time a new medical issue crops up, the first thing I do is turn to the internet for research and support. I am always looking for blogs of other parents who are facing similar issues, and now, I figure it’s about time I added my story to their ranks. This blog covers my children, listed below along with their medical issues, and how I have survived some of the hardest days of my life. It celebrates the joys and triumphs of every day living, as well as the fear and heartbreak of the scary days. This blog will also cover other issues – animal rescue and fostering, adoption, mental illness, divorce, caring for a parent with medical concerns, and death to name a few. It won’t cover politics or religion, and rarely will it touch on current social events, as I have little time for or interest in them. I hope that this can be of some help to someone, and I look forward to hearing from you with your questions and your stories. If there are any subjects you would like me to cover that I haven’t, please feel free to email me your suggestions.

About my children:

  • Princess – my beautiful, amazing teenage daughter. At 13 years old, she has seen so much in her life, she constantly amazes me with her strength and her dedication to her siblings. Princess contracted RSV as an infant and has battled asthma for most of her life. Recently, she also tested positive for tuberculosis exposure. There is also a significant history of Multiple Sclerosis in her father’s family, so she undergoes quite a bit of testing.
  • Pumpkin – my angel baby. Pumpkin developed acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) when he was 2 years old. Despite getting him to the best medical care possible, he died 17 short days after his diagnosis due to a secondary infection.
  • Peanut – my sweet little itty bitty boy. Peanut is a bright, engaging 6 year old. He was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma a little over a year ago, right after the start of kindergarten. While he was being treated for his lymphoma, he was also diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive/Anxiety Disorder. He has battled illness all his life, and is still undergoing testing to determine whether he has an additional immune system disorder. He also has mild asthma, and some food-related accumulation allergies.
  • Monkey – my crazy, loving, wild boy. Monkey is 4, and so far has yet to be diagnosed with any significant medical issue, although I suspect an ADHD referral is headed our way when he starts kindergarten next year.
  • Mouse – my miracle baby. Mouse is the newest addition to our family. After a difficult pregnancy, Mouse was born 5 weeks premature. 5 days after she was born she was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart defect that requires surgical correction. She also has some sort of digestive issue, which we are working towards diagnosing and treating right now.
